Too Cool for School

For Saturday, I thought I'd post something casual that's nevertheless super fun for hanging out.  Just some jeans and a t-shirt and a jacket, but done in a way that's going to leave people with an impression.

New today: Links to the actual stuff.

The shirt; Insert your favorite rock band or ironic t-shirt here.  If you want to go with the purse, something in a primary color is better.  For goodness' sake, choose a color.  There's not much color elsewhere in the outfit and a black, gray or white t-shirt could turn this outfit boring in a hurry.  Something with a v-neck that skims the body and ends around the hips (not too long) is going to be the most flattering.  I chose a red v-neck Black Sabbath t-shirt for reasons that should be obvious to anyone.  I found it at artfire.com for $23.

The Jeans: I found on Macy's website.  Lauren Jeans Co. straight leg jeans Manhattan Wash. $75.  One day soon, I'm probably going to post a thing about buying jeans, but just in short, here.  I picked these straight leg jeans as an alternative to skinny jeans.  Skinny jeans are not very complimentary to ladies with bigger bodies.  These offer the lack of volume that you get with skinny jeans, but without making your legs look like an ice-cream cone with the narrowest point at your ankles.  And the dark wash just looks more put together. $75.

The Boots are the Two Lips Tex Western Bootie in black from DSW. $60.

The bag I found on Etsy for $30.  It's called the Comic Classics 2 crossbody bag and is made by Danaswove.  Cute and whimsical, but with a little bit of an edge.

The jacket is once more from Modcloth, which is still a great place to find signature pieces that offer a twist on traditional styling while still remaining practical for wear.  It's the Airport Greeting Cardigan in charcoal.  I like to choose things in charcoal because it offers much of the same edge as black, but it looks more deliberate.  Everyone wears things in black.  Black is slimming, black is basic, black goes with anything.  Charcoal is all those good things without looking like you weren't really thinking about what color to get. $55.

The sunglasses are by Jessica Simpson.  Don't let the big blonde Texas hair fool you.  Jessica Simpson decided to make a line of clothing and accessories that are cool and affordable and she mostly succeeded.  Also many of them come in plus sizes.  Gold Aviator Shades $30.

The necklace is the That's My Point necklace from Modcloth.  It's simple but designed in an interesting way.  $25.

The Belt is from pzmdesigns on Etsy.  There's also a simpler one on JC Penneys for much less money, but I liked the funky hand made one. $57.
