Midtown Funk

Here's one of those fantasy outfits I mentioned.  I came up with clever names for them!

Start with the basics.  The pants I found on JC Penney's website.  They're Worthington Modern Trouser pants and they cost $25.  I have a pair of these and you can't really tell from this picture, but they're a very wide-legged cut that hits your hip and goes straight down to the floor.  This is a really flattering style for women who are a little more roomy on bottom (or short) because it creates a straight line down the leg and this gives the illusion of length, then just nips in at the waist.

The shirt is from Modcloth, which is a fun little website with lots of quirky, interesting styles.  It also has a good selection of plus sized clothes.  The blouse is called Amor than Meets the Eye.  It's for $30.  I chose it because the graphic nature of the black and white stripes creates visual interest.  The v-neck makes your neck look longer... anything with a v-neck or a scooped neckline will give you the illusion of a longer neck.  Also, the way the stripes come in at an angle to the center will fool the eye a little.

The jacket is by Kate and Mallory and I found it on evine.com for $38.  The dark denim works well with the colors of the outfit and is trendy right now.  I like a cropped denim jacket.  Partly because I'm short-waisted.  I think that when the jacket ends at your natural waist, it's nice to see the curve of your hips coming out under.  Shows the shape of your body, which is nice to know how to do when you carry a little more weight than you might otherwise like.  Also, it's definitely better for jackets to end at the hip or higher, above the line of your crotch, so that you can see the top of the leg.  That goes back to the illusion of a long leg-line.

The scarf is a handmade crochet scarf from LanaGatto on etsy.  Etsy is a great place to go for funky pieces that not everyone is going to have and also to buy from artisans.  This one went for $50.

The purse is from Modcloth again.  Adventure Awaits Bag for $50.  You could also go on ebay and find something cheaper.  I found the tassel celebrity fringe shoulder bag from belongdingdong for $12.  With purses, there's kind of a balance, I think.  You decide if you want a lot of different bags for different outfits and buy cheap and rotate your stock regularly (and the cheap bags will wear out) or if you want a few, good staple bags and spend a little more on them.  Ebay and etsy are good places to get handbags that are pretty cheap.

The earrings: Kate Spade Cueva Rosa earrings $48.  It's a lot for earrings, I know, but I once got a pair of Kate Spade Earrings at the Nordstrom's outlet near my house and they're so nice.  But, as an alternative, you could get some blue cubic zirconia studs on Overstock for 9 bucks.

Bracelet: For the love of Nerds bracelet from WearitoutJewelz on Etsy. $25.  WANT.

One Cute Three heel from Modcloth.  $50.  Don't go cheap on shoes.  That is all.

For me, I might also go with a funky cocktail ring.  I like cocktail rings, but it's a big thing on your hand, so it's not for everyone.  I found this vintage 60's ring on etsy for $5.
